Kapiti Bmx performed well at the North Island Champs Gisborne 2008

9 Riders from our club took part in the North Island champs 2008 hosted by the Gisborne Bmx Club. Riders competed in 12 classes of racing, the youngest rider Tegan Downes(UCI8) through to Phil Simpson (45++++).
2 Kapiti Riders rode in the New Zealand test teams against Aussie.
The Mighty 11's missed out on the trophy by one measley point!
But we are proud to say that Liam Perry was the New Zealand rider that got the team that close. In 5 outstanding races, Liam came 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd and 4th, and was awarded the Ivan Mauger Trophy for the Kiwi Mighty 11 with the most points. Liam gained a 3rd placing in the Mighty 11's individual competition.Well done Liam.
The 14-15 year NZ Test Team that Cara Leyten rode in, lost the competition, but Cara had a great result in her age group, coming in 3rd place, the 1st Kiwi as Aussies took out 1st and 2nd placings.
Another excellent result for the Leyten family was Philips 2nd placing in the Men's 17-29 20" race. After a photo finish, Philip Leyten came away with 2nd, his first trophy at a major BMXNZ event. Congratulations.
Unfortunately Ryan Leyten's results weren't quite as strong in the 14-15 yr, just missing out on the final with a 9th placing. Only the first time Ryan hasn't made a final at an event.
Another strong performance from our most senior riders Phil Simpson( NZ6),racing in the over 40 yrs 20" & 45-49yrs 24" cruiser classes, adding two 3rd placings to an already impressive trophy cabinet.
To some of our clubs youngest riders,Luey Cotton(8yrs boys) showed outstanding performance bringing home 3rd place,a well deserved placing for all the training he has put in.Well done Luey.
First timers to North Island Champs event, claiming some fantastic results in the finals,Iley Taylor(10 yrs girls)4th place,Tegan Downes(8yrs girls) 8th place, and Aaron Downes(10 yrs boys) finishing 20th.
In all, great results for our club riders, showing that with a little,or loads of training, both on track and fitness, can bring fantastic results!!
Lastly to BMXNZ and Gisborne BMX Club.Full credit to your Club,Committee, and sponsors for an excellent event and providing a track to be very proud of,to ride and spectate from.
